A few weeks ago my sister Anita and I, with some help from our daughters, gave a baby shower for my niece Carrie. It is tradition for the aunts to host the showers; bridal and baby.
I come from a family of 5. We had 13 children between us. All but 1 has had children now. So we have hosted a few showers between us. It really is a group effort. I have always enjoyed these celebrations including planning food, when it was my turn, having the party at my house, and the games. We like to do something special for each one.
My daughter Melissa decorates cakes. So she was recruited to make the cake with a teddy bear and ducky theme. She did a beautiful job. My pictures don’t do it justice. The bear in the bath tub with the little ducky was so cute, and it was both cake and gift in one. Carrie was able to take the the topper off and put it on a shelf in the nursery.
I made and decorated some sugar cookies to go with the theme. I make my cut out sugar cookies from a recipe I found this past Christmas on thekitchn.com . They also have a post on decorating that I loved and inspired me to try my hand at cookie decorating. There are so many great cookie blogs with tons of information and tutorials. I have a Pinterest board dedicated to the subject if your interested check it out.
We served brunch and had a dessert bar.I wish I would’ve gotten pictures. I forgot my camera. We spent time remembering the showers that went before and of course everyone wants to share their child birth moments. Giggles and tears. We sang You are My Sunshine. We had all sang it to our children and now it is sung to the 17 grandchildren we have between us. There are still a couple more that might come yet.
We played the dice game and one other game. We are pretty competitive, so it was pretty loud. I think every body I know plays the dice game. Do you know it?
Anita’s house was decorated with teddy bears and rubber ducks, tulips and a cute banner made with onesies and little socks that was also a present.A basket of diapers was set out and each guest was encouraged to write an encouragement, a joke, lyrics to a song, so those late night changes weren’t so painful. Carrie received many beautiful and useful gifts. All in all it was a great day. Any day now baby Silas Winter will grace this world with his presence.
How does your family celebrate these life events?
